West Bengal, a state in eastern India, is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant festivals, and delectable cuisine. Yet, another facet elevates West Bengal’s prominence: its exceptional rice production. Halder Group, a leading rice manufacturer in the state, has harnessed the region's unique climate to cultivate high-quality rice producing more than ten varieties and grades of parboiled rice throughout the year, for different categories of consumers and markets. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the factors that make West Bengal’s climate ideal for rice cultivation and explore how Halder Group has leveraged this advantage for success.
To have the best rice produced, the Halder group has to be selective about the paddies. West Bengal is a prominent hub for the production of varieties of paddy. The Halder group buys 4094, which is a kind of paddy from the districts of Malda, Siliguri, Coochbehar, West and East Dinajpur, and Lalat paddy for premium quality puffed parboiled rice from the districts of Purulia and Bankura. Local suppliers in Birbhum, Murshidabad and parts of Burdwan provide them with regular varieties of paddy like Ratna, Swarna, Gutka, etc. Minikit, Baskathi, Jeerakathi, and Dudheswar are sourced by Halder Group from the districts of East and West Medinipur.
The Factors that have influenced the Rice Production in the state of bengal are mentioned below:
Tropical Location
West Bengal’s tropical location, characterized by high temperatures and humidity, provides an optimal environment for rice cultivation. The state’s warm climate, coupled with consistent rainfall, creates perfect conditions for growing various rice crops. The state boasts an extensive network of rivers and receives substantial rainfall during the monsoon season, ensuring a steady water supply for irrigation. Halder Group has introduced significantly advanced irrigation technologies to optimize water usage, ensuring reliable and consistent crop yields even during periods of fluctuating rainfall.
